INQUEST wrote a letter to the inquiry chair (3 August 2020) to request that he use his discretion to review the implementation of recommendations. We also reiterated the need for the inquiry to examine the role played by institutional racism, discrimination, socio-economic background and inequality. INQUEST wrote a letter to the the inquiry chair (17 January 2020) to raise our concerns that the significant time, resource and energy spent in undertaking The Grenfell Tower Inquiry could be undermined by the lack of action on recommendations seen in previous inquiries, and highlight the need for a national oversight mechanism. The inquiry responded (31 January 2020) sharing some of those concerns. INQUEST prepared a briefing for the general debate on the Grenfell Tower Inquiry's Phase 1 Report for parliamentarians in the House of Commons in January 2020. INQUEST prepared a briefing for parliamentarians on the Grenfell Tower Inquiry - Phase 1 in October 2019. INQUEST wrote a letter to the Prime Minister on 13 August 2019 about listening to the voices of those bereaved by Grenfell Tower fire. INQUEST wrote a parliamentary briefing for a debate in the main chamber on the response to the Grenfell Tower Fire, in June 2019. INQUEST wrote a letter to the Prime Minister on 10 October 2018, about the importance of appointing an independent and diverse panel for the Grenfell Public Inquiry as soon as possible. INQUEST wrote a letter to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry about ongoing concerns including with the venue, disclosure and the examination of witnesses on 22 August 2018. It was signed by Grenfell United, Justice4Grenfell, and Relative Justice Humanity for Grenfell. The inquiry team responded on 13 September. Grenfell United prepared a briefing for the Grenfell Debate in Parliament in collaboration with INQUEST in May 2018. INQUEST wrote a letter to the Inquiry team about the importance of pen portraits on 7 March 2018. INQUEST wrote a letter to Prime Minister about the need for a diverse panel on 18 December 2017. INQUEST submitted a detailed response to the Grenfell Tower Inquiry consultation on the Terms of Reference in August 2017.
