INQUEST were horrified to hear the news of the death of a new born baby in Bronzefield prison. This illustrates the utter inhumanity of a prison system where a woman can give birth alone in a cell and the baby dies. 

Our Director Deborah Coles spoke to BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour about the importance of robust scrutiny on how the death was allowed to happen.

The investigation must identify clear actions to safeguard the lives of mothers and babies who should not be in prison at all.
