January 2000

The family of Roger Sylvester, a young black man who died in the custody of Metropolitan police officers, have been in contact with INQUEST and are working with them and their lawyers to establish the truth about the circumstances leading to Roger’s tragic death.

On Sunday 24th January at 3pm, his family and friends will be laying flowers at Roger’s home in Summerhill Rd N15. A short prayer will be given by a priest. They will then be leading a memorial procession to Tottenham police station, where a short candlelit vigil will be held in honour of his memory. Roger’s family is deeply upset by his death.

They request that they are allowed the time and space to grieve and that those who wish to support the vigil do so in a calm, peaceful and dignified manner that respect’s Roger’s precious memory.
