17th January 2000

On the 11th January 1999, Roger Sylvester a 30 year old black man was restrained outside his home by eight officers from Tottenham Police Station. He sustained numerous injuries and died on the 18 January 1999.

One year later after the completion of the Police Complaints Authority (PCA) investigation, carried out by Essex Police, the family of Roger are appealing for witnesses to come forward who may have seen what occurred that night but are unwilling to go the police.

The family’s appeal comes as a result of their deep dissatisfaction at how Essex police and the PCA have gone about investigating Roger’s detention, restraint and subsequent death.
