The family and friends of Roger Sylvester are holding a candlelit vigil outside Tottenham police station three years after he was restrained by eight Metropolitan police officers and died seven days later, having never regained consciousness. His family is no closer to finding out the truth about how a healthy young black man died in their custody. There has been obsessive secrecy surrounding this case. Despite complaints to Home Office ministers, the Metropolitan Police Authority and the Tottenham MP David Lammy, the Metropolitan Police have refused to disclose any information to his family about the circumstances surrounding his death. An inquest date has still not been set.
