Grenfell

INQUEST was deeply shocked by the fire at Grenfell Tower in June 2017 and has seen first-hand the devastating impact on the affected communities. We are committed for the long run to pushing for the greatest scrutiny throughout the ongoing inquiry and investigations. We hope to ensure families have access to truth, justice and accountability in the way that those affected by previous disasters, such as Hillsborough, have had to fight for. No stone must be left unturned, the truth about this disaster must be exposed and those responsible brought to account.

For over 35 years INQUEST has provided free, confidential advice about contentious deaths and their investigation to bereaved people, community groups, lawyers and the voluntary sector. We are independent of the Government. This means that we are uniquely placed to advise about the various investigations now taking place into the fire at Grenfell Tower. A Grenfell bereaved family member provided feedback saying "INQUEST is giving people who are challenged, an opportunity to regrow their wings".

  • Our casework team are working with bereaved and survivors, assisting them with navigating the complex issues around the Inquiry.

  • We are coordinating meetings with the Grenfell INQUEST Lawyers Group who are representing those bereaved by the disaster.

  • This work informs our policy, parliamentary, campaigning and media work to ensure the legal processes can deliver the truth, effect meaningful cultural change and prevent future deaths.

Our focus is on ensuring family voices are heard. Following the conclusion of phase one of the Grenfell Public Inquiry, INQUEST convened a Family Consultation Day (FCD) to hear directly from those who have been bereaved.

Family reflections on Grenfell: No voice left unheard
is an evidence based report filled with first-hand testimonies of bereaved families who make insightful and practical recommendations for this Inquiry and following future disasters.
